35 Hours to $50,000

I a writing this blog with 35 hours left in my fundraising campaign. We are down to the last hours!! But in the midst of all the stress that a fundraising campaign can bring, I had a very lovely wake-up-call this morning. I received an email from a female worship leader who was encouraged by my blog:

Hi! Just wanted to drop a word of encouragement. Stumbled across your blog this morning and immediately connected with your words! I never even knew I could sing until last year, because I was always doing harmonies for the key of A (or another male key). Worship has always been a huge part of my heart (I play piano and have been on a team for years!), but I just started leading worship songs at my church. Our church is currently all male worship leaders (five male leaders across three campuses). I have been encouraged to step up by these leaders and more people, but I don’t think anyone realizes just how different male and females lead – everything from communication with the team to music style to song key. (I especially don’t think that our leaders understand the key difference of male and females!) Anyways, we have a women’s conference coming up, which is making me (freak out!) look into more resources of how I can be a stronger, more effective worship leader – specifically as a female for females! I can’t wait to dive deeper into your blog and YouTube videos. I will be following you on social media and looking forward to all that will come from you! I think your recent goal to empower female worship leaders is BRILLIANT, and I can’t wait to see what is to come from you.

This message reminded me that my effort to encourage and be a resource to women in worship is truly something I feel called to. I feel as if I am right where God wants me to be and the things that I am writing about are actually making a difference in some people’s lives (even when I think I am not making any dent at all).

So I am writing this update to ask for your help. Will you be a part of empowering these women… specifically the ones that keep reaching out for support and encouragement? I have 35 hours left to raise $50,000 and I need all the help I can get!! Would you consider making a donation and/or spreading the word to anyone and everyone possible? I can’t do this without you!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

#projectWOW

I launched #projectWOW (Women of Worship) this past week, and I have been overwhelmed with the positive response about the vision of the project. It is an album designed to empower the next generation of female worship leaders. And more than that… I want to provide a healthy environment for women in worship in whatever way possible. I have until July 25th to raise the funds needed to accomplish this project. And any way that you can help would be amazing! Here is the link to find out more: #projectWOW

When I first started revealing some of the struggles I was facing as a female worship leader, I was amazed at the messages received from other women in worship.

“…I am a female worship leader, this is my fourth year of leading worship and am only 19. I found your blog post about being a female worship leader really helpful and your music and voice beautiful. I was the only female worship leader at my church in Sydney until just a month ago and have experienced similar things to you that you put in your blog. Just wanted to say thanks for putting yourself out there and being vulnerable, its nice to know there are others out there facing the same things 🙂 and if you have any more wisdom please do share it on your blog or via email. Thanks! God Bless!”

“Oh wow. I am so glad to know that I am not the only one struggling with this– haha! For me, I still hear comments from guys telling me that they find it hard to sing with me during worship, while the rest of the girls would say that they love singing with me. Haha.”

“Can I message you? I’m leading worship temporarily, and I’m a full-time “fill-in” worship leader at my church. I’m just very discouraged and I’m dealing with a lot on my plate right now, worship leader-wise. Thank you for being a voice for us girls!”

The more I write about it… the more response I get. Which is why I feel as if I am right where God has called me to be. #projectWOW is more than just a new album. It is about empowering these women… the ones who feel alone and discouraged… the ones who just want to quit. I want them to know that they are valued beyond measure and that God can use them in such a beautiful way! Check out this video to learn more…

Meaning Behind: Jesus Lives

20130304-110216.jpg

Jesus lives is the first song on my album “Heart After You”. I would like to call it one of the singles on the record because of its feel-good sound and strong message. But I’ll let you decide that!

This song is based off of 1 Corinthians 15:55-57, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As we approach Easter in a few weeks, I am reminded of the victory that we have in our Lord Jesus Christ. He chose to follow the will of God, and give his own life on the cross. And because of that, we have been set free! We are no longer under the power of sin, but we are under the power of Christ. Thank you Jesus! It makes me want to shout out at the top of my lungs that Jesus lives! (If you could hear me through my writing… that is what I am doing! 🙂 ). Let’s get exited about our victory through Christ this Easter season.

JESUS LIVES

Verse 1
Jesus came, humbly gave his life his pride his all
Set us free through victory, o death where is your sting
Our God reigns!

Chorus
Shout it out, Shout, Jesus lives, Jesus lives
Lift your voice loud, all our days Jesus saves
Crucified to set us free
In Christ alone the victory
Shout it out, Shout, Jesus lives, Jesus lives

Verse 2
Hope is found, hear the sound of peace rest and joy
We will sing, for Christ our King has conquered sin through love
Our God reigns!

Bridge
One God, One hope
Now with one voice we sing

Why Worry?

Why Worry?

Worry. I do that a lot.

I have my new worship album coming out in 8 days… yes 8 days. It was a year process, and it is coming out in 8 days! (Did I say that already?) I can’t believe it. But unfortunately, in the last few days, I have found myself in a constant state of worry. There is a lot to finish up before the album release… worry. And I just found out that my album is not going to be done until the morning of the event… more worry. I have to prepare for my rehearsal with my band still… worry. The final videos and technical strategies need to be finalized… more worry. I don’t know how many people are even going to come to the album release… worry. And worst of all: what if they don’t even like the songs… WORRY! The more I think about it, the more I worry… and then God slaps me in the face.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6)

When God called me to do this album project at the end of 2011, I was worried. But looking back at the year process, God has taken care of me this entire time and used these songs and this project for His glory. I am praying that I will have faith in God this week. And trust that he will complete the work that he has started in me and through this project. To God be the glory.

I release my worry to Him, and I pray that today, you can do the same. 🙂

Music That Sticks

Music has a way of sticking with people. I mean, I still remember songs that I used to sing when I was a little kid like, “This little light of mine… I’m gonna let it shine” and “Zacheus was a wee little man… a wee little man was he.” And the list goes on. It is crazy that I still know these lyrics and melodies even after all these years.

But that is what music does.

It has an amazing way of planting itself in your memory and never leaving. And the cool thing… these kids songs were based off of the Word of God. They were inspired by scripture and because of that, am now inspired by scripture. The Word of God is forever placed into my heart.

My original worship album is coming out in less than 3 weeks, and every song on this album was inspired by the Word of God. Just like these kids songs impacted me, I want these new worship songs to impact all who hear. I have been praying that the songs will make a lasting impression on the hearts of the listeners. I want the scripture to be what is lasting and what is magnified. Because if at least one of the songs on the album has a lasting effect on at least one person, then it was all worth it.

WILL YOU JOIN ME IN PRAYING FOR THIS ALBUM? Pray for these specific things:

1. That the album would end up in the hands of people who need to experience God.

2. That the truth of scripture engrained in the lyrics would be catchy enough to stick to the hearts of it’s listeners.

3. That the album release night would be glorifying to God in every way.

Thank you for joining me in prayer. I hope to see you at the album release night on Friday, February 1st @ 7pm, Christ’s Church of the Valley in San Dimas, CA.
